I don't know what it is about Bluetooth ...

Posted by Ben Darthjoy <ben.darthjoy-at-gmail.com> on 29 February 2012 | 0 Comments

... but what should be a simple matter of telling two devices to talk to
each other generally seems to involve at least one round of one of the
two devices either failing to find each other or failing to communicate
once they have.

But not this time.

I've been using a long cable running around the skirting board to
connect my laptop (and music source) to my hifi. This is obviously
illegal as it involves wires.

I today replaced the cable with a Belkin Bluetooth Music Receiver.
Unplugged cable, plugged in music receiver (ok, after a three-day pause
to buy a female-to-female connector that I was sure I had somewhere but
couldn't find). On the laptop, told it to search for devices, and it
found and connected to the receiver straight away. Told it to use the
device as the sound output device, and it immediately did as it was told.

So that's a MIGSR for the music receiver. Only downside is, despite
claiming to need a PIN, it doesn't, so wondering how long it will be
before my neighbours realise they can impose their own music choices on
me ...
